Become a donor
Becoming a donor with MFTA is easy. Once you provide us with some basic information you will be able to continue to enter new donations requests at your convenience. When MFTA receives and reviews this information, a MFTA representative will contact you to suggest one or more of the following:
- List your item(s)on MFTA's Direct Donations Service
Direct Donations is a system we use for items that are too large (home appliances, pianos, couches) or too small ( single computer, chair, or desk) for us to send our truck to pick up. We list the items on our website in an area accessible to our recipient groups only. If they are interested in the item, they submit a form and the Direct Donations Coordinator provides them with your specific contact information. Once the item has been picked up, we ask you to contact the Direct Donations Coordinator to inform us which group received your donation. We will then send you a tax letter for the value you indicate. The recipient group will send you a thank you letter.
- Arrange for a pick up of your donation.
Pick-ups are typically scheduled 3-4 weeks in advance. The standard minimum for a pick up is either a donation of 250 lbs or $1,000 value.
- Arrange for you to deliver your donation to our warehouse.
Drop-offs are typically accepted between 9am-3pm on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. We ask you speak to a MFTA staff member in advance to make sure your donation is acceptable as there are certain items we do not take into the warehouse. (e.g. chemicals, large appliances, flats)
- Offer a referral to one of our recipient groups or another service organization that can use your donation.
